The Lord’s blessings continue as we have now expanded into our 8 county service area providing life and job skills training to over 450 individuals with special abilities helping them to lead a more productive and independent lifestyle. \n\n\n\nToday is a very special day as 35 years ago\, President George W. Bush signed the Americans With Disabilities Act into law in 1990. This landmark civil rights legislation increases access and opportunity for people with disabilities across community life. \n\n\n\nAnd now…for the main event! The Kohl’s Charity Fashion Show is such an amazing event of love\, respect and self-advocacy! You will be introduced to 36 individuals among our community with “Human Needs” because we all are “Special” providing them another way to show the world that they belong. Our models visit Kohl’s Dept Store where they chose 2 outfits to wear…a day and evening attire. On the night of the event\, they hit the runaway strutting and showcasing the latest fashions from Kohl’s. At The Arc of the Bay\, we teach Self-Advocacy\, Self-Choice and Self-Determination and this amazing event allows them another opportunity to let their voices be heard. While much progress has been made\, events like the Kohl’s Charity Fashion Show continue to celebrate inclusion\, self-expression and the unique abilities of every individual we serve. The Kohl’s Charity Fashion Show is much more than a fundraiser. It is an unforgettable evening of confidence\, celebration and self-advocacy. Thirty-six individuals from our community will take center stage after selecting their own daytime and evening outfits during a special shopping experience at Kohl’s. As they walk the runway showcasing the latest fashions\, they are also showcasing their personalities\, confidence and independence. \nAt The Arc of the Bay\, we believe in teaching self-advocacy\, self-choice and self-determination. This event gives our models the opportunity to be seen\, celebrated and heard while reminding our community that everyone deserves to belong.
